11/7/2022 0 Comments Dungeon crawl stone soup draconianFor example, the leather golem's leather food may need to be able to heal more than one point of rot at a time until the golem can mine the lair for yak skins. #Dungeon crawl stone soup draconian plus#Rotting plus no natural healing certainly would make for an interesting game! The effects of the various "foods" would have to be tweaked for balance. It also seems reasonable to give golems the "does not naturally heal" aspect of deep dwarves, which also seems to give some damage absorption. Thematically, it makes sense for golems to rot like ghouls, too, so perhaps this "food" could be used in the same way that ghouls use corpses. Leather golems could subsist on unenchanted leather armor and animal skins.įlesh golems could subsist on corpses of all types, similarly to ghouls but with golem limitations. Wood golems eat non-enchanted wood weapons and perhaps cloth armor Iron golems eat non-enchanted metal weapons and armor Well, if you want to enable different flavors of golems, different golems could consume different things in the dungeon for either food or healing:Ĭlay golems eat rocks and stones and potions (which, if they do not provide a usable benefit, act as a kind of food for keeping the clay "moist") For instance, electric shocks could confuse the golem, or confusion would attack the controller/construct bond itself, leading to a total lack of control for a few turns, where the golem would act randomly or under its own will. It's possible to make the existing mechanisms work differently this way, which is very appealing. The notion of avoiding death in certain ways - and surely being more vulnerable to some ways - because the main thing is the connection between the creator/controller and the avatar/construct, is a great one. What about if the species had different forms it could transform between? (Or the controller (a powerful wizard outside the dungeon) could teleport the golem out and teleport a different kind of golem in?) The draconian-style maturing into the golem type seems to be downvoted (and I agree it seems unplausible). I do think a remote-controlled golem/construct could well make a very interesting, different and fun new species. Re: balance, during the Stone Soup development, a bunch of species seen as redundant have been thrown out - the species do need their own niche and differentation to make it. :) Dungeon Crawl's not yet gotten the random-ish player race right! so that gives a bit of a timeline on how long it might take for the new species to get in. Sure it's ok discussing these ideas, it's just that similar, already existing species are considered in need of overhaul/redesign. Overall, there are probably a lot more possiblities here (electric-golem anyone?), and I just think it would make a neat race. This can be represented just fine with a minor fire power or two. possibly able to tame and/or attract bees.īrimstone golem: Forged from the bowels of the earth, this one is the opposite of the wax golem, resistant to fire, and constantly burning. Wax golem: Made of beeswax, these golems are vulnerable to fire, but otherwise pretty tough. possibly some rarer (and sillier) alternatives: These are the usual materials in the dungeon. Maybe has a chance to rust (equivalent to rotting), if extended stay in water.Ĭlay(or mud) golem: made of anthropomorphic fluids, this one gets a bonus to EV, and probably mutation resistance. Metal golem: permanent chance to reflect hostile spells, bonus to SH, tough, but not as much as stone. actually, shatter vulnerability might be a constant golem theme. probably an inherent AC increase, and vulnerability to being shattered. Otherwise, since they are of magical origin, they can remain as susceptible to the normal adventurer pitfalls as anything else (ie, it would be too easy to make them unable to drown, immune to poison, ect.). At some point in your leveling, your magical origin would manifest itself, and you would take on properties of whatever you're made of:Īll golems are unlife, and immune to necromancy, but can't use it. You would start as a generic golem, probably slightly tougher than a human. here comes unlife, a thematically fitting, and sofar unexplored (as a player species) idea for SS. It would be cool to see another race with a similar ability/theme. Just kind of an odd one, but I love the way Draconians work, in that you don't know what color you are going to be until late enough to prevent start scumming.
